Media used for detection and enumeration of microorganisms present on surfaces of sanitary importance. D/E Neutralizing Agar was developed by Dey and Engley to neutralize a wide variety of antimicrobial chemicals. Specifically, D/E Neutralizing Agar contains ingredients to neutralize quaternary ammonium compounds, phenolics, iodine, chlorine preparations, mercurial, formaldehyde, and glutaraldehyde. Disinfectant neutralization during environmental testing of critical surface is important because carryover of these antimicrobials can lead to false negative results. D/E Neutralizing Agar neutralizes the inhibitory effect of disinfectants, allowing for the evaluation of sanitation.
